Key points
- CPD requirement. CPD is mandatory for renewing the Professional Identification Card (PIC) of all registered and licensed professionals under the Professional Regulation Commission. The PIC is renewable every three (3) years.
- Transition period. Professionals working overseas are not covered, and newly-licensed professionals are not covered for the first renewal cycle. CPD Councils reduce the required credit units to a minimum of not more than fifteen (15).
- Outside the transition. Not covered by the transition are professions whose regulatory laws require a specific number of CPD credit units for PIC renewal, and professionals intending to practice in countries under agreements where CPD is a recognition requirement, such as the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Agreements.
- CPD providers. A provider applies to the CPD Council for accreditation of its program and may seek accreditation from other professions’ Councils with their approval. Programs submitted for accreditation are deemed approved after ten (10) working days from receipt if no feedback is received.
- In-house training and existing undertakings. In-house training programs and capacity-building of government agencies, GOCCs, local government units and private employers count as CPD compliance of their employed professionals. Professionals with an earlier Undertaking comply with not more than fifteen (15) credit units.
- Review of guidelines. Professional Regulatory Boards and CPD Councils have one (1) month to consult stakeholders and amend their Operational Guidelines to conform.
