Key points
- Compensation earners. Individuals earning purely compensation whose tax was correctly withheld need no return if they availed of substituted filing. Those with two or more employers and non-resident aliens not engaged in trade or business in the Philippines use BIR Form 1700 (January 2018 ENCS) manually.
- Business and mixed income. BIR Form 1701 (January 2018 ENCS) is for individuals with itemized deduction, mixed income earners, and estates and trusts engaged in trade or business. BIR Form 1701A (January 2018, NEW) is for individuals using optional standard deduction or the 8% flat rate.
- Non-individuals. Corporations, partnerships and other non-individuals under the 30% regular rate use BIR Form 1702-RT. Those exempt or at 0% use 1702-EX, and those at special rates such as 5% or 2% use 1702-MX, each in the January 2018 ENCS version.
- Filing modes. Filers with tax due generally file the new return with an Authorized Agent Bank in the RDO where registered, or the Revenue Collection Officer. Filers without tax due, or eBIRForms and eFPS filers, mostly use the old version in the Offline eBIRForms Package or eFPS, with exceptions for those using optional standard deduction.
- Payment. Manual payment goes through the AAB or the Revenue Collection Officer using MRCOS. Online options are GCash, the Landbank Linkbiz Portal and DBP Tax Online, and eFPS filers using the old version can ePay through eFPS.
- Online payment follow-up. If the form is not in the offline eBIRForms package, taxpayers who paid online file the annual income tax return with proof of payment with the RDO or RCO not later than the following working day after payment.
