Key points
- Role of Industry Champions. Industry Champions are the principal office or person responsible for developing and sharing expertise and issues on identified industries and sectors.
- Expertise and coordination. They tap industry experts to help identify and train personnel, coordinate with government regulatory offices, liaise with Industry Associations, subscribe to trade publications, and conduct training for BIR personnel. They also monitor transactions and developments from sources such as media, the internet and corporate annual reports.
- Policy and enforcement functions. They recommend pertinent revenue issuances, give inputs for communicating tax issues to stakeholders, and set industry benchmarks and standards for BIR administration and enforcement. They also organize tax audit task forces for selective industry audits and send regular reports to the Commissioner and other offices.
- Work plan. Identified Industry Champions submit a 2010 work plan to the CIR and the Assistant Commissioner, Policy and Planning Service.
